 Many competitive scale models are designed and built with both a top and bottom plate. This closed-bottom design creates a cavity for corrosive moisture buildup. That moisture buildup will cause the rusting of internal components enclosed in the cavity. That corrosive rust will eventually cause complete failure of the scale.
 Rice Lake’s SURVIVOR steel deck truck scales incorporate a completely open-bottom design. The open-bottom design allows unrestricted airflow eliminating the cavity where rust-causing moisture can buildup.
