RENO, Nevada — The International Society of Weighing & Measurement (ISWM) gave Rice Lake Weighing Systems triple honors at the June Conference & Expo in Reno, Nevada. Our own Joe Geisser, Northeast regional director, was 2008 Conference Chair, and he tells us Donald B. Johnson, our founder, received a standing ovation when he received his “50 Year Member Award.”

Joe’s first connection with Rice Lake was when he walked into Rice Lake’s hospitality suite at the ISWM conference in 1972 in Louisville, Kentucky. Joe was trying to get some shuteye in his room across the hall and was being kept awake by the merriment outside his door. “I climbed back into my pants and shoes and went to see all these people coming and going out of an open room, where I found this man pouring drinks and telling stories. I told him I was either going to join the party or call the desk and shut it down. Donald B. said, ‘Oh come in, come in!’ And that was the first time I met him.” Joe adds that the Rice Lake hospitality suite is an ongoing tradition at the conference.

Ann Crowley, who started with Rice Lake in 1993 as a customer service tech and is now a product manager, received the “ISWM Woman of the Year” award. And Cal Schumacher, who has been with Rice Lake since 1991 and is now Midwest regional director, received a certificate for his 25 years of membership. Go Rice Lake!
