A multimeter is a tool used for assessing aspects of an electrical circuit, such as voltage, current and resistance. This 5 part ScaleTalk video series has the information you need to learn more about what a multimeter is and how to use it.
In episode 1 of the ScaleTalk series, "How to use a Multimeter," we discuss different types of meters and which you should be using as a scale technician.
In part 2 of the multimeter ScaleTalk series, we discuss the difference between AC and DC voltage and how to set your auto-ranging multimeter to measure each. We also demonstrate how to measure signal and excitation voltage from a 10-volt excitation indicator.
In episode 3, you will learn how measure resistance when using a multimeter. Demonstration includes taking bridge resistance measurements of a load cell, including best practice tips for connecting your multimeter to wires. We also demonstrate how to perform a continuity test to verify which pin and wire are connected to one another.
In episode 4, we demonstrate how to measure current. You will learn how to use a multimeter to verify a scale's output in current and provide best practice tips along the way.
In the final episode, we demonstrate how to measure batteries with a digital multimeter, which can sometimes be used in scale indicators. You will learn how to measure AA batteries, as well as, a 9-volt battery.
