ADA-compliant Scales in Healthcare

Healthcare facilities need high-quality, durable equipment to deliver the best care to patients. Rice Lake Weighing Systems
takes pride in offering inclusive weighing solutions for bariatric patients and patients with varying mobility levels. We are constantly
expanding the Healthweigh® line of medical weighing solutions to support better care for all patients.

Public healthcare facilities must meet strict guidelines established by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
The ADA sets specific regulations for medical diagnostic equipment (MDE), including scales, to create better
hospital experiences for patients with disabilities.

Rice Lake’s ADA-compliant 350-ADA-1 wheelchair scale and 250-10-2 handrail scale
provide a comfortable weighing experience for patients with wheelchairs or mobility challenges.

Why ADA-compliant Scales Matter

ADA hospital requirements are created to foster accessible, safe spaces for members of the disabled
community. In 2024, the U.S. Access Board introduced updates that specifically address MDE, setting clear
requirements for accessibility. By August 9, 2026, every public healthcare facility must have at least one
ADA-compliant scale, or 10% of all diagnostic equipment must meet ADA requirements.

Rice Lake's ADA-compliant Wheelchair Scale

Integrating an ADA-compliant wheelchair scale can help healthcare facilities meet their 10% benchmark
while providing patients with the best care. Rice Lake offers the 350-ADA-1 wheelchair scale, tested and reviewed
by a third party to be certified as ADA compliant.

35-inch Handrail

Sturdy handrail along the entire scale so patients
can comfortably stand or move

40-inch Weighing Platform

Large weighing platform to provide accessibility
to wheelchairs and bariatric patients

2-inch Edge Protection

Edge protection to prevent slipping off the scale

1:8 Ramp Slope

Slow incline to easily move across the scale

Collapsible Design

The 350-ADA-1 features a foldable design for easy storage and wheels to move it easily. The nonslip platform provides additional grip so patients can easily move on and off the scale.

Ensure Your Facility Has Inclusive Scales

To promote accessibility for all patients, Rice Lake also offers the 250-10-2 handrail scale to offer additional support to patients. The 250-10-2 brings additional stability for patients with mobility challenges to ensure accuracy for every patient.
